In New Year postpone asking 'Chennaila Mazhai Varuma'

Happy New year  to everyone. Lets leave behind the mixed memories during Chennai floods in 2015. Hope this year nothing of that sort happens. But we cant win against Nature, but lets be better prepared from the past learnings.

In this New year beginning, we can postpone the question Mazhai varuma? Precipitation in the Bay of Bengal is too less and not expecting any rain in Chennai for now.

Everyone would be wondering why it is unusually hot in the day time although it is winter. The reason being Jet streams bringing warm air and high pressure in Chennai contributes to clear sky. Thereby direct heat from the sun resulting in hot day. In the below image you can see the Jet stream flowing over Chennai.

The upper Jet stream looses its speed because of minor disturbance from Lower Jet stream, but picks up after that. We can see the disturbance in the satellite image as large clouds. Also we can see the jet streams picking up and carrying traces of clouds along their way.

A Big Bulk of Jet Stream as shown below to pass over India. So need to wait and watch what do they leave behind (Mazhaiya illa Veyilla)

Jet streams travel at high speeds > 100 mph and they play a major role in Cold countries as the height they travel is lower near poles. But for jet streams near equator are at higher heights and direct impact on weather is lesser, when compared to colder countries.

Coming to Chennai climate remains the same hot out in the day and cold during night.  Finally the disclaimer :-) that we are not weather experts but trying to understand things happening around us.
