24 hrs Rain update for TamilNadu

Except Chennai almost entire Tamil Nadu would be experiencing mild to heavy rainfall before tomorrow morning. Kanyakumari had already registered heavy rainfall and Erode, Salem, Coimbator have chances of getting good rainfall before tomorrow morning as per the data. If you see the rainfall map almost entire Tamil Nadu is bound to taste rainfall except Chennai :-(

But conditions are still good for Chennai as low pressure(1007 hpa) kicks in. This can pull more precipitation and leading to rainfall. 

But the beauty of the weather is, it changes quickly. So need to wait and see for Chennai.

Summer Rains in India

We are in summer with several places in India experiencing hot weather, but still some parts of India enjoy rains with thunderstorms for last few days. The Jet stream flowing from west to east has taken a dive into Arabian Sea and picks up good moisture, which results in rain showers as they reach west & south coast of India. As a result Kerala, southern part of Tamil Nadu getting good rains for last few days. These rains are not continuous though but keeps on and off rain for last few days. Not just this, the Jet stream also spreads its wings in norther part of India and resulting rain in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal. The isolated rains in southern part of Tamil Nadu will continue to remain for next few days till the Jet Stream changes its course.

Chennai Mazhai - Impact Summary December 1st

So many things happened because of heavy rainfall in Chennai today and I decided to put few down here.

1. Adyar Madhya Kailash Road Cave
2. Kotturpuram bridge Road Cave
3. Chennai - Tirupathi route blocked
4. Chennai - Dindivanam route blocked
5. Tambarm GST road blocked
6. Perungulathur lake broke and Mudichur residence flooded
7. Poondi lake outflow 36,000 cusecs
8. Chembaram lake outflow 25,000 cusecs
9. 650 families along Adyar river bank evacuated
10. Weird upward shower in road near Tidel Park
11. Chennai - Tiruchi route blocked
12. 12 trains from Chennai Egmore cancelled
13. 9 Flights landing delayed in Chennai international airport and airport was shut down in the late evening.
14. Tambaram Govt Hospital (for Chest care) flooded and Tambaram records historic 50 cm rainfall.
15. Water logging inside several IT parks

The reasons for the impact are several. Few are due to heavy rainfall, inability of Chennai infrastructure to drain rain water, poor quality roads, unplanned drainage, precautionary steps by TN Govt came late. I thank the Traffic Cops who are still out there to ease the traffic as much as possible inspite of flooding in roads.

The views are personal and everypoint is debatable. I am sure I have missed many but tried to capture few that I have thought of.
